Vadodara Municipal Corporation proposes tax rebate for disabled – Lotus Estate Agency

Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has moved a proposal to give rebate in property tax to disabled persons in the city. It has also proposed to assess property tax of club houses of residential societies at rates for residential properties instead of commercial properties.
The suggestion to give 25 per cent rebate in property tax to persons who had 50 per cent or more disability was made during the discussions on the 2016-17 VMC budget. The suggestion was passed by a majority in a general board.

It had also been suggested that the club houses of residential societies were being taxed as commercial properties even when they were used by residents of the societies only. It was proposed that up to a size of 150 square meters, the club houses should be taxed as residential properties and the area above it should be taxed as commercial property.

According to provisions of Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, such changes in tax structures or rebates have to be first passed by the standing committee of the civic body and then the general board. These have to be then approved by the state government. The standing committee will take up the proposals in its next meeting following which the remaining procedures can be followed.
